Which exotic pet…..?

The current trend of keeping exotic pets is becoming more and more popular nowadays.  What is unfortunate is that many owners of exotic pets have little or no knowledge of how to care for the animal, and often, are unaware of the basic diseases and/or indicators of disease in these animals.

Before we go any further, it is this authors opinion that some exotics should only be cared for by qualified animal handlers (for example in a zoo), and as such, should not be kept as pets.  This includes most reptiles, invertebrates and some exotic mammals.

However, as this trend looks to continue, I hope that this article will help you in deciding for yourself if an exotic animal is the pet for you.
