".......Because
we care!"
The Society That Really Cares.......
SPCA formerly known as
RSPCA was founded in 1948. It is a non
profit, community based organization whose primary roles are those of
protecting and caring for animals. Despite our heavy overhead costs and
low public financial support and with no State aid we have been
functioning against all odds.
The society has since progressed by leaps and bounds. Today, it
continues to be held together and maintained by a small group of devoted
members who take an interest in furthering the welfare of animals. Our
scope of work has increased with the years. Thanks to the efforts of
those early pioneers and their supporters, the Society started on the
right path and today, those of us who care for welfare of animals owe
much to the hard work and determination of those early animal lovers.
SPCA's Role Today
Today, the Society is known as the Society for the prevention of
Cruelty to Animals, Penang and is under the distinguished patronage of
His Excellency of Governor of Penang. It is solely dependent on public
support and the objects of the Society are to prevent cruelty to animals
and to promote kindness by fostering an intelligent public interest
regarding Man's duty to animals.
The Society's work is not purely destructive.
SPCA has many animals for adoption. We hope
to find a love and warming home for them. Instead of buying a pet from
the shop, you can consider adopting one of these adorable animals from
our shelter.
LOST DOGS
If you should lose your pet, there are some immediate steps you
should take :
Jabatan Pelesenan (Tel: 2638818)
The
SPCA (Tel: 2816559)
-
Visit the SPCA. By visiting the shelter, you will be able to
identify your pet, whereas descriptions given over the telephone can
often differ from the actual description of the animal in the kennels.
-
Check with any vets in our area, as your pet could have been taken
to the Vet if it was involved in an accident.
REMEMBER if your pet is wearing its Dog Registration Disc and its
identification Disc, you could avoid all these problems.

Perhaps you remember a special pet that you loved, the companionship,
friendship, devotion and fun. Why not say a last 'thank you' in a
practical and humane way, by leaving a donation or a legacy to the
SPCA
in your will? Your solicitor will know what to do.
DONATIONS of any amount are gratefully accepted and exempted from
Income Tax!
